This staff group photo was taken in front of the Female Department sometime between 1894 and 1897.  Warden Philander Madden is seated in the front row (4th from right)
Photo of two officers taken between 5/1/1895 and 8/31/1897.  On the right is Ed M. Cowen (aka Cowan) who was the Day Turnkey during those years.  The location is unknown, perhaps the Insane Ward building.
These two picture are of the cooperage.  The American Cooperage Co. contracted inmate labor to make butter tubs.  The building burned in March 1902 with a total loss estimated at $16,000, quite a sum in those days.
