(from the May 1, 1895 Perry Bulletin)

"Little Dannie Evans, who is 13 months old and was born in Anamosa Penitentiary, is soon to go out. He is weaned and will be taken to his grandparents at Ottumwa to be raised by them. He is a bright-eyed little boy and is the pet of all the convicts, as well as of the warden. It will be remembered that his father and mother are both in the Anamosa prison - the father for life and the mother for 18 years, for murder. Mrs. Evans, who was once so brave and fearless, is a changed woman, with all the womanly tenderness."
